A new coached running group is starting this Sunday with the aim of helping members to increase the length of and improve their longer weekend runs.

The first will go from the car park on East Chevin Road above Otley at 10am.

New membership fees agreed at AGM

Membership fees for the new year were agreed at the AGM last Friday at £27 for seniors, £15 for concessions and £10 for juniors. The 2007 membership year will run from 1 February 2007 to 31 January 2008.

The Entry Central system is currently being updated and I will let you know shortly when you can sign up.

Membership Renewal

New Training Sessions at Greens in Shipley

In response to interest shown by members, Donna Edmondson-Booker and Louise Hanley have arranged for some triathlon-specific training sessions to be run at Greens in Shipley. These will start on Wednesday 21 February, as follows:

Wed 5pm Spin session
Wed 6pm Strength/Conditioning(core, lower and upper body resistance work)
Sat 9am Spin
Sat 10am Strength/Conditioning
Sun 4pm Swim

All studio classes will be with Donna (BTA level 3 trainee), and the swim session will be with Louise (BTA level 2 coach).

There will be a guest pass charge of £4. This will cover the session, or sessions (if 2 back to back). You can also use the gym or pool once in.
We are on trial to see if Leeds/Bradford members will take advantage of this! If not we may not be able to keep the sessions. You will need to ring Greens to book, stating you are a Leeds/Bradford member. The number is 01274 532 227. Do not ring to book till week beginning the 19th. Numbers will obviously be limited, but this is an excellent opportunity! Greens usually charge £10 guest pass fees, so take advantage!

Postponing Ladies Triathlon Training Day

Due to unforeseen circumstances the Ladies Training Day scheduled for the 25th has had to be postponed until later in the year.

Early Season 07 Results

Some good early season performances by LBT athletes:

Pride of place must go to Tom Williams for a superb 3rd place overall at the Ballbuster Spring Duathlon (8m/24m/8m including five times up the infamous Box Hill). Helen Turton (Tom's other half) also starred with 3rd place among the ladies.

At Clumber Sprint Duathlon, Brian Howarth finished 6th overall and Sarah Sedcole was 6th female and 1st F20-24. Clare McKim and Kirstie Hamilton also had good races.

At Clumber Classic Duathlon (10K/40K/5K and a world champs qualifier) it looks to have been an extremely strong field. Donna E-B finished 18th female in 2'23'28". Richard Hamilton did a very impressive 2'06'23" but only finished 60th overall! Richard Howarth was 92nd in 2'10'37".

STAR and Clubmark accreditation

Club is delighted to announce that it has added to their recent achievement of gaining STAR accreditation (senior club accreditation) by also achieving Clubmark accreditation.

LBT have successfully met high quality standards set by Sport England and British Triathlon in areas such as, child protection, equity and ethics and club management. The club has now shown itself as being an effective, safe and enjoyable environment to participate in triathlon for people of all ages.

Cambridge Duathlon: Richard Hamilton qualified for the world championships in the 30-39 age group

Skipton Triathlon: 45 LBTs competed last Sunday. Lois Rosindale won the womens race by over 5 minutes and beat all but 15 of the men. Sarah Sedcole won the ladies 20-29 category (8th lady overall), Helen Rhodes won the ladies 50-59 category and Tim Ashelford won the mens 40-49 category (6th man overall). Other top 20 finishers were Helen Livingstone (4th), Debbie Stockley (6th), Jayne Harrison (16th), Sarah Skitt (20th), Ian Taylor (12th), Nathan Woodland (14th) and new member Richard Findlow (16th).

Pool Triangle: The regular Wednesday evening time trials started this week. 8 LBTs did the first event, with Jack Maitland taking the 1000 points for the LBT league as the fastest LBT.

Harrogate Evening Road Race League: The first event took place at Otley on Thursday evening. Jon Hendry (13th) and Donna Edmondson-Booker (2nd) were LBTs leading finishers

Saturday Open Water Swimming

Open water swimming is proving extremely popular this year and due to popular demand we will be starting sessions on Saturday mornings from 30 June. Swimming will be between 8 and 9.15am and we must be clear of the water by then to allow the sailors access.

With the increased numbers comes the need for extra safety cover. Please take your turn to ‘spot’ from the bank or to get in the rescue canoes. If we don’t have enough safety cover, we cannot run the sessions. With so many people coming to the sessions, it shouldn’t be necessary for anyone to have to do too many sessions on safety duty, but as an added incentive those doing safety duty will be given a voucher for a free swim at a later session

Junior Triathlon Training Day

Leeds & Bradford Triathlon club are holding a Junior Triathlon Training day. It is on Wednesday 25th July at Carnegie Campus running from 9.30 am - 3.30pm.

It is for children aged between 8 and 16 years. The training day will be run by British Triathlon qualified coaches in the safe environment of the Carnegie campus in Headingley.

The idea of the day is to introduce children to try a new challenge of triathlon. We will also have children who have done triathlon before ,so you can see how its done .

We will teach everyone new and fun skills that are related to swim / bike / run. You will need swim things , bike & Helmet and some thing to run in .

If this sounds good please book your place . Places are limited so be quick.

LBT are please to announce the 2008 Training Camp to be held over three weeks in Malaga in May. If it's a holiday full of sun, sea and sand you want then you've come to the wrong place! What we’ve got is a healthy measure of swim, bike and run with like-minded tri lovers and a large dose of fun thrown in for good measure.

Andy and Tracey Idle are wonderful hosts who really look after everything and will make sure you don’t waste away doing all that warm weather training. Tracey is an amazing cook and they provide breakfast, dinner and lunch for the whole week. The food is one of the most complimented areas of previous camps!

LBT Junior Aquathlon 18th May 2008

We are pleased to announce that this years aquathlon will be held on the 18th May 2008 at Leeds Grammar School. Entry forms are now available and can be downloaded from this site and posted to the race organiser.

This years event will be a fully inclusive event which will also include racing for disabled triathletes.

If you are entering the race as a disabled triathlete you need to complete a BTF Statement of Declaration which is also available on this site. If you need any help with this form please dont hesitate to contact the race organiser.

Early 2008 Results

First out of the blocks were the golden oldies, Alan Judd and Francis Riley, at Ironman New Zealand, where they finished 3rd and 4th in the 60-65 age category. Both earned the opportunity of a slot in Hawaii in October, although for various reasons neither will be taking it. A pretty remarkable effort, especially considering both were suffering from significant injuries.

On Saturday there were plenty of LBTs on the start line at Clumber Park for either the Classic or Sprint duathlon. First home for LBT in the Classic was Richard Hamilton in 27th place, just five seconds ahead of Brian Field. Richard had the fifth fastest bike split in a strong field and was faster than the overall winner. Donna Edmondson-Booker finished third in the F35-39 category.

In the Sprint race, Brian Howarth bravely took on Will Clarke, no less, and finished 8th overall.

The LBT duathlon championship for 2008 was held as part of Stokesley Duathlon and the gold/silver/bronze went to:

National Duathlon Champs

Richard Findlow finished 12th at the national duathlon champs, with Richard Hamilton also featuring strongly.

London Marathon

Six LBTs (at least) were at the London Marathon, led home by Tom Williams in 2’49’57”. Mark Hutcheson finished in 3’00’25”, no doubt cursing the wind and rain in the late stages. Helen Turton finished just outside 3’20 and was faster than quite a few in the ladies elite race. Ian Kitching ran 3’21 and Heidi Davys 3’47, beating her PB by about half an hour. Hazel Adams completed her first marathon in 4’44.

Open Water Swimming 2008

OWS will be starting in May. No final details yet, but the likely first date is Tuesday 13 May. There are likely to be Saturday sessions as well a little later on.

Otley Sailing Club has made a number of improvements to the clubhouse, including more shower facilities, so you will hopefully appreciate better facilities this year.

We aim to make the sessions as safe and enjoyable as possible and we will need you to volunteer to do duty in the rescue boats from time to time. If we have similar numbers to last year, this will not involve doing boat duty more than a couple of times during the season.

World Championships in Vancouver:

Richard Findlow finished 9th in the M40-44 category in the Olympic distance race and was the first European in that category.

Simon Gray finished 17th in the M35-39 category in the Sprint race.

Allerthorpe Sprint:

Louise Hanley won the ladies race and Helen Turton was second.

Simon Brooksbank was 3rd in the mens race.

Helen Rhodes won the F50 category.

Dave Smart was 2nd in the M60 category.

Ironman France:

Rob Anderson completed his first ironman on Sunday in tough conditions in Nice (35 degrees on the run with no shade) in 13’13’03”.

LBT Juniors session canceled on Saturday 2nd August

Unfortunately this weeks session on Saturday 2nd august will have to be cancelled as most of the coaches are away racing at the team relays triathlon.We are sorry about the short notice but I have just return from being away myself.

The week after on the 9th August is Wakefield junior triathlon so there wont be a club session that day.

We will be back at Carnegie on the 16th August and will send out an activities sheet for the next month later this week.
